Stock Price Alerter

I built and expanded this app based on a Udemy course, leveraging a combination of technologies to create a powerful tool tailored for traders who wish to stay updated on news related to their stocks even when they are away from their computer screens.

Technologies used

• TKinter is a Python library that I used for developing the graphical user interface (GUI) of the application. TKinter is a standard library that provides a set of tools for creating windows, dialogs, buttons, and other GUI elements. It was the ideal choice for this project due to its simplicity, cross-platform compatibility, and ease of use. By using TKinter, I ensured that the app’s interface is intuitive and user-friendly, making it accessible to traders of all levels of technical expertise.
  The app relies on various external data sources to deliver real-time news updates to users:
  
• NewsAPI is a vital component that allows the application to fetch news articles relevant to the selected stocks. NewsAPI provides a wealth of news data from various sources, which is curated and presented to traders in a structured manner. By integrating NewsAPI, the app ensures that traders receive timely and accurate news related to the stocks they are interested in, helping them make informed decisions.
  
• Alphavantage API plays a crucial role in the app’s functionality as it provides access to financial market data. Specifically, Alphavantage offers historical and real-time stock market data, including price quotes, technical indicators, and more. I integrated Alphavantage to monitor stock price fluctuations. Whenever a chosen stock increases or decreases by a specified amount, the app can trigger news alerts, ensuring traders are promptly notified of significant market movements.
  
• Twilio is an essential communication platform that I incorporated into the app to send SMS or text notifications to traders. Traders can receive alerts directly on their mobile devices, ensuring they stay updated even when they are not actively using the app. Twilio offers a reliable and straightforward way to send these notifications, enhancing the app’s utility and making it an indispensable tool for traders who want to keep a close eye on their investments.

Expansion opportunities and technologies I would use

In the future, I want to add user accounts and add more filters to the news a user might receive. To do this, I would implement user authentication and storage with Firebase Authentication for secure and scalable account management.
